Procedure:
1. Install Skype on your laptop. (http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/get-skype/)

3. Connect your phone to your laptop and make use of skype.
4. Now place your phone in your house with a lid on the top corners or wherever you want so that it acts as a security camera. You will always get live footage on your laptop whenever your WiFi is on.
Alternatives
FaceTime can also be used if you are using a Mac and an iOS mobile device. Tango could be used in the case of an Android phone.
